Just like intelligent quotient, creativity quotient had also been developed. However there are few drawbacks to these measures as result of measuring creativity is often biased and depends mainly on the outlook and personal judgement of the tester. Hence finding a standard method for measuring creativity is pretty difficult to develop.
Among various methods developed for measuring creativity, social personality approach is quite common. In this method researchers measure various personality traits that include:
- aesthetic orientation
- self confidence
- independence of judgement
- attraction to complexity of an individual
Psychometric approach is another common method for measuring creativity. There are various sections of this test. Participants are asked to write a whole story after they are told the plot of the story. Thus creativity is measured in psychometric approach. Quick responses associated with word is another form of psychometric approach. Participants are sometimes also asked to create a list of consequences of unexpected events. Remote association is another section of this approach of this test for measuring creativity. Participants are also asked to say a few uncommon uses of some common objects that we use everyday. Figure concept is another common way for measuring creativity. In this test participants are provided with different figures and are asked to find out commonness between the two figures.
Creativity can be also measured by asking participants to put tick mark on creativity achievement questionnaire, which is almost a self analysis report test. Torrance developed Torrance Tests of Creative thinking in 1974 for measuring creativity. This is a simple test yet effective. Steps in this test include fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. Adjective test is another measure for creativity test. Introduced by Gough this idea came into scene in the late '70s and is yet a popular test for measuring creativity. Consensual Assessment Technique is another very well known creativity measuring test. Teresa Amabile introduced this concept. According to this concept observers viewing an object will judge whether the object is creative or not. The RAT or remote associates test was introduced by Mednick and Mednick in 1967. This is another common test for measuring creativity. Here creativity is judges by viewing the relationships among various ideas that are expected to be remote from each other.
