Jack Nicholson

John Joseph Nicholson, better known to the world as Jack Nicholson, was born on 22 April in the year 1937. It was at the Fitkin Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey that witnessed the birth of this talented actor. He studied in Manasquan High School. When Nicholson first came to Hollywood, he was working as a go-fer, meaning an employee who is often sent on errands. His talent was not missed and soon Jack Nicholeson was offered a position as an animation artist which he politely declined. He wanted to pursue his career as an actor.

His acting career started with Roger Corman. The early works of Jack Nicholson in which he had small roles are The Cry Baby Killer (1958),The Little Shop of Horrors (1960),The Raven (1963) and The Terror which was his first directing role for one day (1963). He also wrote for some movies in the late 60s like Thunder Island (1963), Flight to Fury (1964), Ride in the Whirlwind (1965), and The Monkees' vehicle Head (1968, co-written). Even though these movies did not enjoy much success, nevertheless these movies added to his experience and helped him focus on what he liked.

His first real writing success was The Trip in 1967 and after a stint in the movie Easy Rider he got his first big acting break. This was when Jack Nicholson received his first Oscar nomination. The following year bagged him the Best Actor nomination for his role in the movie Five Easy Pieces (1970). Since then there was no looking back for Jack Nicholson. He won more than 12 Academy Awards, 8 BAFTA Awards and 18 Golden Globe Awards. He did a lot of unusual roles and it was not uncommon for him to refuse roles offered to him. He did exactly what enjoyed and had enough offers to choose from. The 1989 Batman movie, where Nicholson played The Joker, was an international smash hit and Jack Nicholas earned a whooping $60 million with a percentage deal. He was also criticized for some of his works and even earned some worst acting awards but that only goes to show that he was not afraid to try any new ideas and was not intimidated by the response of the audience. His failures never went to his heart and his success never went to his head. Jack Nicholson was a focused actor and managed his career efficiently.

Jack Nicholson had a very unsettled personal life. He has five children by four different women but he was married only once. He married Sandra Knight on 17 June 1962 and separated on 8 August 1968. They had a child and named her Jennifer Nicholson. His other children are Caleb Goddard with Susan Anspach, Honey Hollman with Danish model Winnie Hollman, Lorraine Nicholson and Raymond Nicholson with Rebecca Broussard. He was a huge sporting fan and his attendance at the basket ball court to support his hometown team, The Lakers, was legendary. He never missed a home game in 25 years and that meant that he rescheduled his working days and times accordingly. Most of these times he made sure that the studios scheduled the filming around the Lakers home schedule.
